Introducing: Kid City!

We just finished building Kid City. My schoolmates and I were building it for the Expression phase of our City Arc. Kid City is a place where each kid gets their own space to have some down time and do their own thing. We have school in a warehouse in one big open space and sometimes it gets very loud. We have a library in our space but it doesn’t block out the sound completely and kids would like to have a quiet space to themselves.

Kid City is a wooden structure that has a room for each student. Each of us gets to decorate and paint our space any way we want. Some kids even turn their rooms into stores. For instance, Henry has a candy store/casino, and Audrey has a clothing store. It’s mostly a barter system now, but we might make our own currency.

We initially designed the blueprint for the city in Google SketchUp, a 3D modeling tool.

Then we made a skeleton of the two story building with 2x4s.

Then we closed it off with plywood and decorated our rooms however we wanted.

That’s my room there in the front corner.

We even built furniture for our rooms.

And today I got to move in! Now I just need to find a beanbag for my room. :)
